I did something crazy last week.
My hair had gotten so long it was starting to look like a failed brown haired Rapunzel audition. Every morning I’d try to detangle what looked like a bird’s nest on my head and pull it back in a messy bun and throw on some hairclips to pull my over grown bangs out of my face. My hair is so thick and heavy! I was sooo over it!
So I scheduled a hair appointment with my hairdresser who is an old friend of mine that I grew up with since kindergarten. This one-hour checked off the following I have been working on:
✔️ Self-care
✔️ Nurture relationships
✔️ Revelation discovery
“Take it all off!” I declared to her. Her eyes went wide as I motioned about 8 inches with my hands.

My hair before I chopped off 8 inches.
Let me tell you
Watching chunks of your hair fall to the ground is both terrifying and liberating. Kind of like that moment when you decide to hit send on an important email without triple-checking it. 😱
But here’s the weird thing. As I watched my hair pile up on the floor, I had this major revelation. I’d been holding onto that hair like I was holding onto old habits that weren’t serving me anymore.

My beautiful hair – I could probably make a wig outta it. LOL
You know what I mean? Those habits that make us feel “safe” but actually hold us back. Like checking emails at 11 PM. Or skipping lunch because “there’s just too much to do.” No judgement, I’ve been there and done that!
It hit me – sometimes we need to cut away what’s weighing us down to move forward. Just like my new bouncy hairdo made my mornings easier, letting go of draining habits creates space for better ones. That’s exactly why I created the Work-Life Optimization System. It helps you identify what’s weighing you down and shows you exactly how to cut it loose. No scissors required.
With love and lighter hair,

“Your resident hair-cutting philosopher” Ortega

The after picture! Isn’t it beautiful!?!?!
P.S. I hope you join me on my journey to getting rid of things (and people) who are weighing me down.
